A youth attacked a railway gangman, inspecting the railway tracks with an iron rod and snatched gold chain around his neck and Rs 4,000 from purse between Sangramnagar to Shivajinagar railway tracks on Friday at around 7.30 am.

Gangman, Vijay Chandrabhan Nitnavre (42) was inspecting the railway tracks between Sangramnagar and Shivajinagar. A man of around 35 years of age came near him and inquired about his work. He walked with Nitnavare for some distance and then suddenly attacked on his head with an iron road. Nitnavare fell on the ground and the accused snatched gold chain from his neck and Rs 4,000 cash from his pocket before running away from the scene. Nitnavare started screaming for help. A nearby resident Shrimant Gorde Patil immediately informed about the incident to the Jawaharnagar police. The police then took injured Nitnavare to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

DCP, Dr Rahul Khade, PI Santosh Patil, API Shraddha Waidande, PSI Shashikant Tayade and others rushed to the spot on receiving the information. A case has been registered at the Jawaharnagar police station against an unidentified person on the complaint lodged by Nitnavare.
