Prominent writer and senior rural literature figure, Raosaheb Rangnath Borade, popularly known as R. R. Borade, passed away on Tuesday (Feb 11) morning at MGM Hospital. He was 85. He is survived by his wife, Sulabha Borade, daughters Prerna, Tripti, Manjushri, Aruna, and grandchildren. His passing has left the literary world in mourning.

Born on December 25, 1940, in a farmer's family in Katgaon, Latur district, Borade served as a Marathi professor at the Marathwada Shikshan Prasarak Mandal. He later became the principal of several colleges, including Vinayakrao Patil College in Vaijapur, Shivaji College in Parbhani, and Devgiri College in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Known for his strict discipline, he was highly respected in the field of education. Since taking up the principal position, he has been residing in Vidyaniketan Colony in the city.

Due to old age, he had been bedridden for a year and had experienced weakness and hearing loss. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to MGM Hospital two days prior, where he breathed his last at 8.30 am on Tuesday.

Borade was a towering figure in Marathi literature, especially in rural writing. As soon as the news of his death broke, literary figures rushed to the hospital and his residence in Vidyaniketan Colony. His last rites were performed at the crematorium near the old Central Octroi Checkpost in the Cidco N-6, where many prominent social, political, and literary figures paid their respects.

Diverse Literary Contributions

R. R. Borade contributed extensively to rural literature, but his work spanned various genres. He incorporated the Marathwadi dialect into his writing. His literary output included short stories, novels, plays, reviews, and humorous works. He was also an active blogger and contributed richly to social, political, cultural, and rural literary movements.
