Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
At the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's (MSRTC) Chikalthana workshop, the employees who worked hard and gave their best period of their lives, in assembling the buses, are compelled to face inconvenience in their lives after retirement due to the administration's inefficiency. Not one or two, but as many as 18 retired employees have been making rounds of the workshop for the past two years, trying to claim their pending leave balance.
These employees have appealed to the administration, saying it should at least provide their monetary benefits while they are alive. After retirement, these employees are facing financial difficulties. Some need money for their children's weddings, while others need it for building their houses.
A total of Rs 63 lakh is stuck as leave balance among these 18 employees. Some employees have Rs two lakh pending, while others have Rs three lakh. The retired employees grieved saying that they are still struggling for it even after two years of their retirement.
Planning of funds
When contacted Pramod Jagtap, the Manager of the Chikalthana Central Workshop, said, “ The planning for the funds is underway and the amount will be paid to them either this week or next week.”
According to a retired employee Shaikh Sardar, “The payment for 211 days of leave during my service has still not been received. The total amount is nearly Rs 3 lakh.”
Another retired employee S B Sathe added, “After retirement, a meagre pension is received. If the leave balance money is received, it would provide some support. However, even at this age, we have to keep running around the workshop for it.”
