SCR relocates goods yard from city to Daulatabad

The South Central Railway’s (SCR) Nanded Division has announced the relocation of the current goods yard at the railway station to Daulatabad. The upcoming facility will be capable of accommodating three freight trains at a time, and work on the project is scheduled to begin in June, said the SCR officials.

Why the shift?

As part of the redevelopment of the railway station, a new station building is also being constructed towards the Satara side. To facilitate this development, the decision was made to relocate the existing goods yard. After several rounds of site evaluation, the location at Daulatabad was finalised.

New Goods Yard at Daulatabad

Spread over 12 acres of land. It will be equipped with three railway lines and two platforms dedicated exclusively for freight movement. Land acquisition for the project is in its final stages.

Current situation at the existing yard

The current goods yard at the railway station can accommodate two freight trains at a time. It handles the inflow of various commodities from across the country, including cement, rice, wheat, urea, and more. Tractors are also offloaded here. Goods are distributed within the city using three-wheeler vehicles, while outbound consignments are sent across India. Once the new yard is operational, all such goods traffic will be routed through Daulatabad.

Upcoming infrastructure at Daulatabad Station

Dedicated goods siding lines. Construction of platforms. Rooms for porters and traders. Installation and connection of new rail tracks. The estimated project duration is 18 months.
