For the first time in the last four months, prices of pulses, pearl millet and sorghum have come down sharply amid rising inflation.
Increasing corona infection and lockdown have disrupted the entire economic cycle. Unseasonal rains were said to have reduced production last year. The central government had banned the import of pulses so that farmers in the country could get better prices for their produce. However, the big distributors and traders took advantage instead of farmers. As a result, the price of pulses touched rupees hundred. The rise in diesel and petrol prices has also contributed to the rise in prices. The central government has finally lifted restrictions on imports of pulses from May 15, amid widespread criticism of its failure to curb inflation. Its immediate effect was felt in the local market. Prices of pulses fell by Rs 2 to Rs 8 per kg last week due to lifting of restrictions. Prices of sorghum and pearl millet also fell by Rs 4 to Rs 8 per kg due to satisfactory production in the state.
Summer millet production increased
Summer millet production has increased in Maharashtra. Due to increase in production in the district, 800 to 900 bags of millet are arriving in Jadhavwadi APMC every day. The new Lemon Tur dal from abroad will also be available in the market soon, said wholesaler Nilesh Somani.
