Aurangabad, March 20:

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed to refer patients to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to reduce the unnecessary burden on the hospital and make it easier for critically ill patients to get to bed.

The number of corona patients being referred directly to the GMCH from the municipal Covid Care Center (CCC), private hospitals, had increased. This led to an increase in the number of asymptomatic patients being admitted to GMCH. As a result, critically ill patients were not getting a bed. Realizing this, a meeting was held by the medicine department head, Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya, to discuss the SPOs for covid patients to refer asymptomatic patients from CCC or Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) to district civl hospital. The officer on special duty of the intensive care unit, Dr Sudhir Chaudhary, medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Avinash Lamb were present.

Room air patients will be sent to CCC:

Patients on room air in the GMCH will be sent to CCC. A committee has been formed in this regard. Patients will be referred as per SOP, said the acting dean Dr Varsha Rotte.

Patient transfer procedure:

Before transferring the covid patient, the physician at the CCC or DCHC will discuss the availability of beds for patients with DCH Dr Anil Joshi and Dr Kailash Chitale.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) will be notified by CCC. The RMO at the district civil hospital will then be present with a stretcher and a staff member to receive the patient.

The patient will be referred from DCHC only between 12 pm and 2 pm.
