The Revenue Department has introduced a new sand policy, replacing the older system of sand depots with a riverbed auction model. Under the new policy, 12 sand beds have received clearance from the Environmental Committee, and tender notices for their auction will be published within two days.
The expected total yield from these 12 sand beds is 74,996 brass (a traditional unit of volume used in construction material measurement). The specific sand availability from each riverbed is as follows:
Vanegaon (Phulambri) – 3,896 brass
Hiradpuri (Paithan) – 12,721 brass
Shehjatpur (Vaijapur) – 4,081 brass
Zholegaon (Vaijapur) – 3,576 brass
Babhulgaon Ganga (Vaijapur) – 16,961 brass
Pendgaon (Gangapur) – 3,710 brass
Bhalgaon (Gangapur) – 7,420 brass
Agathan (Gangapur) – 4,240 brass
Devli (Kannad) – 6,625 brass
Kerhala (Sillod) – 3,533 brass
Bhavan Chinchkheda (Sillod) – 4,276 brass
Upali (Sillod) – 3,957 brass.
New sand policy announced
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule introduced a new policy effective from April 8. Under this, sand excavation will be done based on the riverbeds (ghats). Free sand will be provided for housing schemes. The policy mentions about the free sand. Twelve sand zones have been approved in the district. A total of 74,996 brass (a local unit of volume) of sand will be excavated from these beds.

Tender process to begin in 2 days
The District Minor Minerals Officer, Kishore Ghodke, said, “The tender process for auctioning sand beds will begin within two days. A royalty of approximately Rs 600 per brass is expected from sand extraction.”
