Aurangabad, April 8:

Stocks of Covaxin will last only a few days for Aurangabad district. As a result, only those who have taken the first dose of the vaccine are given a second dose of Covaxin. If these vaccines are not supplied on time, it may delay the second dose. The district has adequate stocks of Covishield vaccine and emphasis is being laid on administering the first dose of the vaccine to citizens above 45 years of age.

Priority was given to the Covishield vaccine at all vaccination centres on Thursday. There is a shortage of covaxin across the state. The vaccine is also in short supply in Aurangabad. Vaccination started on January 16 in the district. Health workers, frontline workers are being vaccinated, followed by people above 45 years of age. Many were vaccinated with covaxin. But the supply of these vaccines is already less as compared to Covishield. As a result, the first dose of the covaxin vaccine has been discontinued as the stock will not last for the second dose.

Stock will last for 19 days

Deputy director of health Dr Swapnil Lale said, there is an ample stock of Covishield vaccine. However, the stock of both vaccines will only last 19 days.
