Aurangabad, June 18:
The members of the Aurangabad branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday protested violence against healthcare workers with black masks, ribbons and posters. With the slogan ‘Save the survivors’, the doctors demanded a central law to prevent incidents of violence against medicos. The doctors also submitted a letter of demands to the district collector.
IMA president Dr Santosh Ranjalkar said, "Attacks on doctors are unfortunate. Doctors do not get any relief in property tax, income tax, water bills or any other tax. However, doctors are expected to provide uninterrupted public service. Since the pandemic, medical professionals have been working flat out to save the lives of those affected. Yet, attacks on doctors over issues that are beyond their control have continuously been reported from different parts of the country. This alarming trend has reinforced the need for better measures to protect medics from acts of violence. Vice president Dr Anupam Takalkar, Dr Ujwala Dahiphale, Dr Rajendra Gandhi and Dr Ramesh Rohiwal also expressed their views against the frequent attacks on doctors. Joint secretary Dr Praful Jatale, treasurer Dr Harmit Bindra, former president Dr Dutta Kadam, Dr Ujwala Zanwar and others were present.
Stop violence against doctors
Secretary Dr Yashwant Gade said, “Against this backdrop, lakhs of doctors of the IMA are observing a nationwide protest today urging the government to enhance security features in all medical facilities across the country and declare them as protected zones. The protesting doctors have also demanded that the central government bring in a law to deal with violence against doctors.
