The senate is an apex body of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu). The meeting is scheduled to be held on March 5. The body comprises 76 members, but only 10 had submitted their questions to be answered in the meeting. Compared to the strength of the senate, the ratio of question pushes to think whether the remaining members would be just attending the meeting for namesake or timepass?
The Governor heads the apex body, and its functioning is also governed by his office. The senate takes decisions on educational, economic and administrative-level issues. As per norms, it is mandatory to conduct senate meetings twice a year, but more than 400 colleges (from four districts) are affiliated with the university. As a result, many of the members requested hold the meeting four times a year as they get less time for discussion on various important issues in two meetings.
Meanwhile, the fewer questions put up by the members point out how much the other members are serious about our university and college educational issues. The forthcoming senate meeting will have a discussion on the varsity budget. The members who have submitted their questions include legislature Dnyanraj Chougule, Dr Narhari Shivpure, Dr Smita Awchar, Shaikh Zahoor, Dr Govind Kale, Dr B S Dhobal, Dr Satish Dandage, Dr M B Dhondge, Vijay Subukde and Dr Jitendra Dehade.
