Aurangabad, Feb 23:

The number of sandalwood tree thefts in the city has been increasing day by day. The latest incident was reported on Tuesday morning in Cidco N-3 when thieves cut down a sandalwood tree near a jewellery shop. The thieves also threatened two armed security guards with weapons.

The tree was located in front of a jewellery shop in N-3. Gajanan Dhawale and Shivkaran Yadav were deployed for the security of the building on Monday night. At around 4 am on Tuesday, there was a rush of vegetable sellers in the streets, so the security guards kept their guns away and were chatting in front of the showroom. Meanwhile, three of the six thieves who arrived on three motorcycles suddenly grabbed Dhawale and Yadav and told them to remain silent threatening them with weapons, while the other three thieves cut down the sandalwood tree in just fifteen to twenty minutes and decamped from the spot. Both watchmen then reported the incident to Pundaliknagar police.

Similar attempt three months ago

Three months ago, three thieves came to cut down the sandalwood tree. However, they ran away after the same security guards threatened them at gunpoint.
