Veteran educationist Madhukaranna Mulay passes away

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Former General Secretary of Marathwada Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (MSPM), veteran Educationist, and Industrialist Madhukaranna Haribhau Mulay (resident of Bansilalnagar) died of old age on Tuesday afternoon. He was 88. The last rites upon him were performed at the Banewadi crematorium in the evening.
He came to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for business purposes. After coming to the city, he started a business of books and stationery under the name ‘Shaley Sahitya Mandir’ in 1956. Later, he became a founder member of the MSPM, which was established in 1958. In 1962, he became a life member of the Saraswati Bhuwan Education Society (SBES) and worked on its Central Executive Committee.
He founded the company ‘Mulay Brothers’ and, with the help of his three brothers, entered the fields of constructing Canals, Dams, and Buildings. They completed various projects across the country. In 1988, he was first elected as the General Secretary of the MSPM. After that, for 25 years, he worked in this position and expanded MSPM across Marathwada. The expansion to over 100 branches included 11 colleges, 30 junior and higher secondary schools, 2 law colleges, 1 pharmacy, 51 secondary schools, 3 primary schools, and 2 permanent non-grant colleges. While working in the education sector, he also expanded his business ventures into Construction, Seeds, Sugar Industry, and Vehicle Sales.
He had organised the 77th All India Marathi Literary Meet (Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan) at the Deogiri College and was the chairman of the Reception Committee. He also served for many years as the President of the Trustee Board of the Marathwada Sahitya Parishad (MSP) and made significant contributions to the development of the MSP.
In 1999, after the formation of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Madhukaranna contested the assembly election from the Aurangabad West constituency. He has left a notable mark across various fields including industry, social work, politics, culture, agriculture, and education.
He is survived by a large family comprising his wife, two daughters, sons and entrepreneurs Sachin and Ajit Mulay, his brothers and entrepreneurs Sharadrao, Sudhakarrao and Padmakarrao Mulay, as well as his daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
