Aurangabad, April 10:

The City Chowk police have cracked the murder case of Vikas Devichand Chavan (23, Haricha Tanda, Pathardi, Ahmednagar) just a few hours after the incident.

The accused in the pretext of giving lift to the deceased Vikas took him to the graveyard behind the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and demanded Rs 500 from him. As Vikas refused, he attacked him with a sharp weapon and killed him. The accused has been identified as Shaikh Sharukh Shaikh Feroz (27, Juna Bazar). Shahrukh works as an agent for the private bus operators to gain passengers in the bus stand area. He lives in the Juna Bazar area with his mother. He is a drug addict.

Vikas came to the city on Thursday night to attend an examination to recruit the attendants in the Reserve Bank of India scheduled on Friday morning at the Chikalthana MIDC area examination center. He slept at the bus stop at night. Shahrukh saw him at around 5 am and asked him where he was going. Shahrukh offered him a lift and took him to the graveyard. He threatened him and demanded money from him. Vikas had around Rs 600 with him but he refused to give him the money. In a fit of rage, Shahrukh attacked Vikas with sharp weapon and stabbed him on neck, chest and stomach. Shahrukh cut one hand of Vikas and fled away from the scene. Vikas’s hand was not found at the murder spot. The police searched for his hand all over but could not find it. On Saturday, Abdul Kadir Shaikh, a resident of Thakur Vasti (Nayi Basti) found the hand on the roof of his house. He informed it to the police and the police seized. The police opined that a cat must have taken the hand there.

Meanwhile, an informer informed constable Sanjay Nand about the murderer of Vikas, due to which the police could nab him within few hours of the incident. The police arrested Shahrukh after a chase in his area while he was trying to flee away. The valet and aadhar card of the deceased Vikas were found with Shahrukh. DCP Nikesh Khatmode Patil took note of the work done by constable Nand and announced a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for him.
