After almost a year, the Visitor Committee meeting at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was held on Monday but ended abruptly in just 35 minutes. Only a few issues were taken up for discussion.

During the meeting, a presentation (PPT) showed a drop in outpatient and inpatient numbers from 2018 to 2024. MLC Satish Chavan questioned the decline. The administration cited possible errors in data due to lack of HMIS integration or mistakes in the PPT. Chavan also asked about the quality of stents used in angioplasty. Officials clarified that FDA-approved stents are used.

He urged hospital staff to help patients under government schemes and said, “We shouldn’t have to call doctors only then can we say GMCH has improved.” He also asked whether middlemen still operate on the hospital campus. The meeting began under the chairmanship of MLA Pradeep Jaiswal as a visitor committee president. Those present included MLC Satish Chavan, dean Dr Shivaji Sukre, superintendent Dr Gayatri Tadwalkar, health deputy director Dr Kanchan Vanere, special officer of government cancer hospital Dr Arvind Gaikwad, special officer of super specialty hospital Dr. Vaishali Une-Lokhande and several senior doctors and committee members.

‘Take over Aamkhas Ground’

MLA Jaiswal instructed officials to initiate the process to take possession of the Aamkhaas Ground. He also demanded a report on works and expenses from the past six months in the next meeting.
