Aurangabad, April 16:
The corpse of deceased Raghunath Ghongde was recovered at Balanagar village in Paithan tehsil on Thursday afternoon. In the investigation, it has been found that his wife and his cousin murdered him in January as he was proving a hindrance in their illicit relations. The local crime branch unveiled the murder mystery in just 24 hours and arrested the accused. They have confessed that they have murdered Ghongde.
During the ploughing of the farm of Radhabai Bhausaheb Ghongde in Gut No. 17 at Balanagar on Thursday, a decomposed body of a man was found. API of Paithan MIDC police station, Archana Patil conducted a panchnama. The PI of local crime branch, Bhagwant Phunde started the investigation and it was found that the body is of Raghunath Ghongde. In the further investigation it was unveiled that his wife and his cousin murdered him. The police arrested the suspected cousin Dattatray alias Shivaji Jaggannath Ghongde (40, Balanagar). During interrogation, he confessed that he had illicit relations with Raghunath’s wife Yashoda and he was proving a hindrance in their relationship. Hence, they murdered him. Later, Yashoda Ghongde was also arrested and she also confessed the murder.
The police action was executed under the guidance of SP Mokshada Patil, ASP Gorakh Bhamre, by PI Bhagwat Phunde, PSI Sandeep Solunke, head constable Pramod Khandebharad, Kiran Gore, constable Sanjay Bhosale, Sanjay Tandale, Padma Devere and others. SP Patil announced a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for the police team for their excellent and immediate action.
When Raghunath got suspicious about the illicit relations of his wife with his cousin Dattatray, he used to beat her. Hence, they planned to kill him. On the Makar Sankranti day, Dattatray took Raghunath to his farm at night. When Raghunath was asleep, he brought Yashoda on his two-wheeler to the spot. Dattatray then hit a stone on the head of Raghunath and Yashoda hit him on head with a stick. They later buried him in a ditch in the farm of Radhabai Bhausaheb Ghongde.
