Aurangabad, April 9:
A youth came to the city on Thursday night to attend an examination for the recruitment of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) attendant posts was murdered brutally at the Chite Khana Graveyard behind Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) headquarters. The incident came to the fore on Friday morning. The murders stabbed the youth on neck, chest and stomach and also cut one hand. The hand was not found on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Vikas Devichand Chavan (23, Haricha Tanda, Post Alhanwadi, Pathardi, district Ahmednagar). Vikas belonged to a low-income family. His father and elder brother are farm labourers while his mother is ill for the past 15 years. He completed his graduate studies by earning for himself. Presently, he was preparing for the competitive examinations. He was handicap by one hand since birth.
Vikas came to the city to attend an online banking examination scheduled at Chikalthana MIDC at 8 am. He left Pathardi on Thursday evening at around 4.30 pm by bus and came to Paithan, from where he came to Aurangabad at around 10 pm. He slept at the bus stand area at night. As he was alone, the murders took him out of the bus stand and took him to the Kabrasthan. They stabbed him in the neck, chest and stomach, and other parts of the body. They also cut one of his hands, but the hand was not found at the murder spot.
Meanwhile, a sanitary worker noticed the murder at around 7 am on Friday. He immediately informed the City Chowk police on the phone. The patrolling team rushed to the spot and then informed the senior officers. DCP Nikesh Khatmode Patil, ACP Hanumant Bhapkar, PI Avinash Aghav, Sambhaji Pawar, PSI Kashinath Mahadule, and others rushed to the spot. The body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after the panchanama. A case has been registered against the unidentified murderers on the complainant lodged by the deceased’s cousin Rajendra Prabhakar Chavan.
Vikas wanted to change the degradable condition of his family by gaining a government job. After graduation, he started preparation for the competitive examinations. He had given three examinations so far, informed his cousin Rajendra.
Meanwhile, the family did not have money to come to Aurangabad after receiving the news of the death of Vikas. The Sarpanch of the village, Ganesh Pawar, and others collected donations and gave it to the family. The police then provided money for an ambulance to take the body to their village and for the last rites. Social worker Kishor Waghmare arranged for an ambulance and gave Rs 5,000 to the driver.
