India becomes the 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world
India has emerged as the 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. In the last 5 years, more than 200 Mobile Phone Manufacturing units have been set up in the country, Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Monday.
Prasad tweeted,"Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, India has emerged as the 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. In the last 5 years, more than 200 Mobile Phone Manufacturing units have been set up."
According to a graph shared by the minister, India produced 330 million number of mobile handsets. The country exported 36 million units of smartphones in FY 2020 as compared to 17 million units in FY 2019.
In 2014, 60 million smartphones were manufactured in the country. At that time there were only 2 mobile manufacturing units in India. Mobile phones made in India in 2014 were valued at 3 billion. The union minister will also launch new schemes for Indian electronics at a press conference on Tuesday (June 2) as well.
