Global Tech Firms Eye India for Manufacturing Amid US-China Tensions

The Trade war between Us and China can benefit India greatly. Due to the huge US tariffs on China and China's actions, global companies that make smartphones, laptops and computers are considering shifting all or some of their production to India. However, there is a need for pressure at the government level for this. According to Counterpoint Research, China's global share in smartphone production was 64 percent in 2024, which could decrease to 55 percent by 2026. India could become a major beneficiary in this tariff game and India's share in global smartphone production could increase from 18 percent to 28 percent by 2026.

Taiwan will spoil the game

Laptop manufacturers are looking at Taiwan as an alternative to China. In such a situation, Taiwan could spoil India's game. Many companies are preparing to go to Vietnam.

India's share in global laptop production is less than one percent. However, if major companies shift some of their production from China to India, India can repeat the success story of the mobile sector in laptops too.
