A security breach at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has once again raised concerns over safety measures in Pakistan. Moments after Afghanistan’s historic eight-run victory over England at Gaddafi Stadium, a spectator ran onto the field attempting to hug Afghan players during their celebrations.

Security personnel responded swiftly, intercepting the intruder and escorting him away. The incident marked the second pitch invasion of the tournament, adding to growing worries about security arrangements.

Earlier in the event, a similar breach occurred during the New Zealand vs. Bangladesh match when a fan stormed the field and attempted to grab Rachin Ravindra. The intruder was arrested and banned from all cricket venues in Pakistan.

With Pakistan co-hosting the Champions Trophy for the first time in 29 years, the Pakistan Cricket Board has assured that it is working with security agencies to prevent further incidents. Officials are under pressure to reinforce measures as the tournament enters its crucial stages.

Afghanistan Eyes Semifinal Spot

Afghanistan remains in contention for a semifinal berth after their win over England. Their final group-stage match against Australia is scheduled for February 28 at Gaddafi Stadium. A victory over Australia, along with an England win over South Africa, would secure Afghanistan’s place in the final four.
