The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team for white-ball formats until the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The board said that Javed will also remain a senior member of the men’s selection committee and will take on additional responsibilities after the conclusion of the eight-team tournament.
The PCB said that it will begin the search for a permanent white-ball head coach following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, aiming to have the new coach in place by March 9, 2025. The vacancy was created after Gary Kirsten's resignation from the position.
According to PCB, Jason Gillespie, the head coach for the red-ball team, oversaw the squad’s recent tour of Australia and will rejoin the team for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
Pakistan's men’s team is set to play three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5. They will then travel to South Africa for three more white-ball matches from December 10-22. To prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa in a tri-series ODI tournament from February 8-14.
