The Champions Trophy match between Afghanistan and Australia was abandoned due to rain. Australia secured a spot in the semi-finals with one point from this rain-affected match, marking their first semi-final appearance since winning the tournament in 2009. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's hopes are hanging by a thread; they need England to defeat South Africa by a large margin to have a chance. However, it is unlikely that South Africa will create such an opportunity, as they aim to top Group B by beating England.

In the match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Afghanistan batted first and scored 273 runs in 50 overs, with solid contributions from Sediqullah Atal (95 off 85) and Azmatullah Omarzai (67 off 63). Just as it seemed Afghanistan might defend their total, rain interrupted play for half an hour. Although the rain stopped, the match was ultimately called off due to an unplayable ground.

Australia began their chase with Matthew Short and Travis Head, who put together a 44-run partnership before Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed Short. After a dropped catch by Rashid Khan, Head capitalized, scoring a strong half-century. Australia reached 109 for one in 12.5 overs, with Head unbeaten on 59 off 40 balls and Smith at 19 off 22. When rain resumed, both teams left the field, and despite the rain subsiding, the match was abandoned due to persistent moisture, resulting in both teams receiving one point. With this point, Australia now has four points from three matches, including one win and two draws, securing their place in the semi-finals.
