Congress leader Shama Mohamed, who recently faced backlash for comments about Rohit Sharma's weight, has now praised Sharma for leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy final. She congratulated the team on their triumph in the tournament. India secured a record-breaking third Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in a tense final held in Dubai. The victory was fueled by Sharma's half-century. Mohamed took to X to congratulate Team India, specifically highlighting Captain Rohit Sharma's brilliant 76 runs, as well as the crucial innings played by Shreyas Iyer and K L Rahul. "A triumph to remember!" she exclaimed.
Earlier in the match, after losing the toss, India's spinners, Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45), played a key role in restricting New Zealand to 251/7. India successfully chased down the target of 252 with six balls to spare, thanks to the contributions of Rohit (76 off 83) and Iyer (48 off 62). Mohamed's previous posts fat-shaming Sharma had sparked significant controversy, drawing condemnation from cricket fans, her own party, and even Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who described them as "deeply shameful." BJP leaders, including Amit Malviya, also criticized Mohamed and the Congress party, with Malviya alleging a "premeditated put down."
The Congress party distanced itself from Mohamed's initial remarks, clarifying that they did not reflect the party's stance. She was instructed to exercise more caution in her public statements. Pawan Khera affirmed the Congress's respect for sporting icons and disavowed any statements that could undermine them. She was also instructed to delete the offensive posts.

Mohamed defended her earlier comments, characterizing them as personal and unnecessary. She claimed she was simply addressing Sharma's fitness while maintaining her pride in his achievements.
