Cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to leave Mumbai and join Goa’s cricket team. He might be the captain of the Goa team for 2025-26. In a mail sent to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Yashasvi Jaiswal requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for switching the Cricket team from Mumbai to Goa for the next game series. Jaiswal has played for the Mumbai team since his under-19 days. He will be joining Arjun Tendulkar and Siddesh Lad at the Goa team. Both Tendulkar and Lad, used to play for Mumbai and then joined the Goa team. His team change at 23 is a significant step for his career.
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy campaign, Yashasvi Jaiswal played for Mumbai after he returned from an underwhelming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. For the Indian cricket team stars, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) made participation in domestic red-ball cricket mandatory. This prompted Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, etc., to return to their respective teams.
In January 2019, the 23-year-old made his first-class debut for Mumbai against Chhattisgarh at the Wankhede Stadium. In 36 games for Mumbai, he has amassed 3712 first-class runs, including 12 hundreds and 12 fifties. While playing for Mumbai, he scored four and twenty-six in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir. Two years ago, his domestic cricket performances led to his inclusion in the Indian national team, and he hasn't looked back.
"Yashasvi Jaiwal has sought an NOC from us and has cited that the reason for his move to Goa is personal," a source in the MCA told the Indian Express.

“He wants to play for us, and we welcome him. He will be playing for us from the next season,” Goa Cricket Association's secretary Shamba Desai told PTI. Speaking about whether Jaiswal can be the captain, he said, “Yes, that can happen. He plays for the Indian cricket team, so he can be the captain, and we will work in that direction to appoint him. Regarding his availability (for the domestic competitions), we are yet to speak.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal belongs to the Bhadohi village in Uttar Pradesh. He has a deep and emotional connection with Mumbai. As a kid, he used to sleep in the Muslim United SC tent at the Azad Maidan, and sometimes he sold panipuris to survive in Mumbai, before his mentor Jwala Singh took him to his home in Santacruz.
