Australian cricketer David Warner is stepping into the world of Telugu cinema with his debut in the upcoming film Robinhood. Warner attended the film’s trailer launch event in Hyderabad, where he joined actors Sreeleela and Nithiin on stage for a lively dance performance.
A video from the event shows Sreeleela and Nithiin teaching Warner dance moves to the song Adhi Dha Surprisu from the film. In another clip shared by Mythri Movie Makers, Warner impressed fans by performing Allu Arjun’s iconic step from the song Srivalli in Pushpa: The Rise. Sreeleela dazzled in a blue shimmery saree, while Warner kept it casual in black jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black shirt. Nithiin sported black jeans, a blue t-shirt, and a black jacket.
Speaking to the audience, Warner expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and the chance to be part of the film. “Appreciate you all for turning up. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to all for the support over the last 15 years. Really appreciate it,” Warner said, as quoted by NDTV.
He also thanked the film’s team for the opportunity. “To Mythri Movie Makers, director Venky, I was very nervous getting out of my colored clothing and getting into the film industry. You brought it to my attention to come,” he added.
Warner revealed he reached out to his co-star Sreeleela to express his humility about joining the project. “I wanted to make sure it was going to be a big success. I was nervous to come into your family and world because it is foreign, but thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is amazing and I feel privileged and honored that you guys have all accepted me into your family.”
Warner enjoys a massive fan following in Hyderabad, thanks to his long association with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played for the franchise for several years, leading the team to its only title in 2016. Beyond cricket, Warner has built a strong connection with Indian fans through social media. He often shares dance reels on Instagram featuring popular Telugu and Hindi songs, sometimes with his family.
Robinhood is a heist action-comedy written and directed by Venky Kudumula, produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film stars Nithiin and Sreeleela in the lead roles, alongside Shine Tom Chacko, Vennela Kishore, and Rajendra Prasad. It marks Warner’s debut in Telugu cinema with an exciting cameo.
Robinhood is set to release in India on March 28.
