Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel has provided an update on KL Rahul’s availability for their IPL 2025 opener against Lucknow Super Giants. Rahul is reportedly set to miss the match due to personal reasons.
Speaking about the star batter’s participation, Patel said the team is still unsure. “Obviously, he joined the team. We don't know yet if he'll play. Right now we don't know if he is available or not,” Patel said.
Rahul joined DC’s pre-season camp late and is expecting his first child with wife Athiya Shetty. He was also recently spotted at a promotional event in the Middle East. These factors have led to uncertainty over his selection for the first match.
Delhi Capitals secured his services for Rs 14 crore following intense bidding between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. DC made several high-profile signings in the auction, including Mitchell Starc for ₹11.75 crore and T Natarajan for ₹10.75 crore. The franchise also retained David Warner for ₹9 crore and Mukesh Kumar for ₹8 crore using the Right to Match option. South African veteran Faf du Plessis was acquired for ₹2 crore.
With Patel leading the team this season, DC will look to make a strong start in the tournament. Rahul’s availability remains a key talking point as the team prepares for their first match against his former franchise.
