Pakistan's opening batsman and hitter suffered injury during the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between Pakistan and New Zealand on Wednesday, February 19. Zaman was sent back on the bench after struggling to run on the field.

Zaman was injured during the fielding when he was trying to stop a boundary. He immediately decided to go off the field and sit near the advertising hoardings. Shaheen Shah Afridi took the first over of the inning, and New Zealand's opener Will Young was on strike. Young pulled the cover drive after Shaheen delivered his second delivery of the first over, which was a little outside off. Fakhar was at the back point. He chased the ball at the boundary, and he suffered an injury.

The opener chased the ball and stopped the boundary but was in pain and called for a replacement immediately after that. Zaman was replaced by Kamran Ghulam. Fakhar was seen pointing to the left side of his back before making his way to the dressing room with the physio.
