Rohit Sharma expressed his disbelief and gratitude after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced that a stand at the Wankhede Stadium would be named in his honour. “Once I see my name there on the stand, it will be a very emotional moment for me. And like I said, from not having to enter the stadium and now to have a stand, it's those two moments. There is so much that so much has happened between these two moments, so I am forever grateful,” Sharma said at a recent event.

The MCA made this historic decision during its 86th Annual General Meeting, recognising Sharma's outstanding contributions to Indian cricket. The Divesh Pavilion Level 3 at Wankhede Stadium will now bear his name.

This honour follows Sharma’s leadership in guiding India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the UAE.

In addition to naming a stand after Sharma, the MCA decided to name the Grand Stand Level 4 after the late Ajit Wadekar, former India captain who led the team to historic Test series wins in England and the West Indies in 1971. The Grand Stand Level 3 will be named in tribute to Sharad Pawar, the former MCA, BCCI, and ICC president, who played a key role in transforming Wankhede Stadium and bringing the 2011 World Cup final to Mumbai.

As a captain, Rohit Sharma has led India to major victories. Under his leadership, India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, ending a long wait for the title. His success continued as he also guided the team to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, remaining undefeated in both tournaments.

Currently, Rohit is playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. However, he has struggled with form this season, scoring just 82 runs in six matches at an average of 13.66. Rohit will be eager to turn things around in his next match against Chennai Super Kings on April 20.
