Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first against Gujarat Giants Women in the fifth match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at Kotambi Stadium on Tuesday.
Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the team aims to take advantage of the new ball in the first six overs. Mumbai have made two changes, with Parunika Sisodia replacing Saika Ishaque and G Kamalini making her debut. Gujarat have retained their previous playing XI.
Gujarat Giants have played two matches so far, winning one and losing one. They began their campaign with a defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but bounced back with a six-wicket victory over UP Warriorz. In that match, leg-spinner Priya Mishra took 3-25 to restrict UP Warriorz to 143-9 before skipper Ashleigh Gardner led the chase with a 52-run knock off 32 balls.
Mumbai Indians lost their opening match to Delhi Capitals by two wickets in a close contest. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 80 off 59 balls while Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 42 off 22. However, controversial umpiring decisions and a lack of support from the lower order resulted in Mumbai posting 164, which they failed to defend.
