Gujarat Giants cruised to an 81-run victory over UP Warriorz in a one-sided Women’s Premier League match on Monday. Beth Mooney's explosive 96 not out and a stellar bowling effort from Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar led Gujarat to a dominant win.
Mooney played a magnificent unbeaten knock of 96 off 59 balls, hitting 17 fours, and powered Gujarat to a commanding total of 186/5. Although she fell short of a century, her performance set the stage for a comfortable victory. UP Warriorz, chasing 187, crumbled to 105 all out in 17.1 overs.
The Warriorz began their chase disastrously, slipping to 36/5 in the eighth over, with Gujarat’s bowlers in complete control. Deandra Dottin’s fiery opening spell claimed two wickets in the first over, dismissing Kiran Navgire and Georgia Voll for ducks. Kashvee Gautam (3/11) and Tanuja Kanwar (3/17) provided further breakthroughs, while Meghna Singh (1/21) and Ashleigh Gardner (1/9) also contributed to the demolition of the UP Warriorz batting line-up.
Grace Harris, the only UP Warriorz batter to show some fight, managed 25 off 30 balls. However, the middle order collapsed, with Vrinda Dinesh scoring one, Deepti Sharma making six, and Shweta Sehrawat adding five. Chinelle Henry hit a quickfire 28 off 14 balls but was unable to prevent the inevitable collapse.
Earlier, Gujarat Giants had set a daunting target thanks to Mooney’s knock, leaving the Warriorz with no chance of a successful chase. With the win, Gujarat Giants moved from fifth to second in the points table, while UP Warriorz dropped from third to fifth.
