Hardik, a key figure in the Indian team, played a pivotal role in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy victory. He scored 99 runs at an average of 24.75 and took four wickets at an economy rate of 5.83.
In 137 IPL matches, Hardik has scored 2,525 runs with 10 half-centuries and taken 64 wickets at an economy rate of 9.09. However, Hardik will miss MI’s opening match against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He has been handed a one-match suspension for IPL 2024 due to Mumbai Indians' over-rate violations during the previous season. Since MI did not make the playoffs, the suspension extends into the 2025 season.
The penalty follows three over-rate infractions committed by MI in IPL 2024. According to league rules, a captain is suspended for one match after a team accumulates three over-rate violations in a season.
