Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran created history on Wednesday by becoming the first batter from his country to score a century in the ICC Champions Trophy. He reached the milestone during Afghanistan’s match against England in Lahore.

The opener reached his century off 106 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. This was his sixth ODI hundred.

Zadran is also the only Afghan player to score a century in 50-over ICC events. His previous hundred came against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup. This is Afghanistan’s debut appearance in the Champions Trophy.

Afghanistan struggled early after losing three wickets inside the PowerPlay and slipping to 37 for three. Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi then built a crucial 103-run partnership for the fourth wicket to bring the team back into the contest.
