Punjab Kings have suffered a major setback in the Indian Premier League 2025 as fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is likely to miss the remainder of the season due to a leg injury.
Ferguson walked off the field after bowling just two deliveries in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The New Zealand pacer appeared in pain as he held his left quad while walking back to his bowling mark during the sixth over. He was immediately taken off the field and did not return for the rest of the game.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Punjab Kings’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, bowling coach James Hopes confirmed the extent of the injury.
“Ferguson is out indefinitely and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he’s done a real decent injury to himself,” said Hopes.
The injury comes as a blow to Punjab Kings, who have relied on Ferguson’s pace and experience to lead their bowling attack. His absence is expected to force the team management to reconsider their bowling options for the remaining matches.
Ferguson’s availability for the final phase of the tournament remains doubtful, and the team is yet to announce a replacement.
