Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Shardul Thakur delivered a match-winning performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday. His efforts earned him a special gesture from LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who bowed down in respect after the team's victory.

Thakur, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction before being signed as a replacement for Mohsin Khan, has been in top form. After taking two wickets in the opening game against Delhi Capitals, he produced his best IPL performance against SRH. The pacer dismantled the opposition's top order, dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the powerplay. He later removed Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami, completing his maiden four-wicket haul in the league.

Thakur finished with figures of 4/34 in four overs, helping LSG restrict SRH to 190 runs. His performance denied the home side any chance of a massive total.

Following the win, Goenka, greeted the LSG squad. When Thakur approached him, the franchise owner bowed down in admiration, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.

Thakur has taken six wickets in two matches and now holds the IPL 2025 Purple Cap. He went unsold at the auction but has made a strong comeback as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

LSG easily chased the 191-run target and won by five wickets with nearly four overs left. Nicholas Pooran scored 70 runs and Mitchell Marsh added 52. They built a 116-run partnership for the second wicket and helped LSG secure their first win of the season.
