The inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals have been dealt with a crushing blow after Jofra Archer was ruled out of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. ECB has confirmed that Archer will not be taking part in the IPL after scans on his injured right elbow confirmed a low grade stress fracture. "He will now commence an injury rehabilitation programme with the ECB medical team with a view to be ready for the international summer campaign starting in June against West Indies in a three-match Test series," the ECB stated in a release on Thursday (February 6).
England are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in early March for two Tests, with the IPL beginning later in the same month. Archer is part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise, who had retained him for the 2020 season. Royals will now need to find a replacement for Archer who was a key player for the Jaipur franchise with his death bowling and lower order batting. Archer is expected to be out of action for atleast three months. Archer had picked the injury in the Test series against South Africa which England won 3 - 1.
