Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni turned back the clock with a match-winning knock as CSK defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in an Indian Premier League 2025 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 26 off just 11 balls. He smashed four boundaries and a six to take CSK over the line in a tense chase of 167. Shivam Dube also stayed not out on 43 as the duo ensured CSK's second win of the season.
CSK required 24 runs off the final two overs. Shardul Thakur bowled the 19th over, which started with a boundary from Dube. The next delivery was a no-ball that Dube dispatched for six. A quick single brought Dhoni on strike. Dhoni survived a dropped catch from Ravi Bishnoi before ending the over with a boundary. CSK needed five off the last over. Dube took a single before Dhoni added another. Dube then sealed the victory with a four, giving CSK the win with three balls to spare.

Earlier, Dhoni walked in to bat in the 15th over after Vijay Shankar fell to Digvesh Singh Rathi. Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant held back Bishnoi, which allowed Dhoni to settle in and accelerate later. Dhoni was also effective behind the stumps. He became the first player in IPL history to complete 200 dismissals as a wicket-keeper. His landmark moment came when he stumped Ayush Badoni during LSG's innings.
Pant top-scored for LSG with 63 off 49 balls. His knock guided the team to 166 for 7 in 20 overs. CSK’s bowlers, led by Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, kept things tight in the middle overs. Despite the win, CSK remain at the bottom of the table with four points from seven matches. They will next face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20.
