Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, who recently returned to the team after surviving a horrific car accident, now faces another heartbreaking situation.  The young man who pulled him from the burning wreckage, saving his life, is now fighting for his own life after a tragic love story ended in a suicide attempt.

Rajat, the hero who rescued Pant, was in love with 21-year-old Manu Kashyap.  Their inter-caste relationship was opposed by their families, who arranged for them to marry others.  Despondent, the couple attempted suicide three days ago by consuming poison.  Manu tragically passed away, while Rajat remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Manu's mother has accused Rajat of forcibly taking her daughter from their home and administering the poison. Police are investigating the allegations and will take Rajat's statement when he is conscious. Grateful for saving his life, Rishabh Pant had gifted Rajat a scooter.  Pant's car had crashed and burst into flames late at night while he was driving home from Delhi.  Rajat and another young man bravely pulled Pant from the car, preventing him from being burned alive.  Pant suffered injuries to his leg and head.

After undergoing initial treatment at a hospital in Dehradun, Pant was airlifted to Mumbai where he was under the care of the BCCI's specialist consultant. After undergoing surgeries to reconstruct all three ligaments in his right knee, Pant did his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
