Mohammed Shami became the fastest Indian to take 200 wickets in One-Day Internationals during India’s opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Dubai. The 34-year-old pacer reached the milestone with his third wicket of the match.
Shami surpassed Ajit Agarkar’s record of 133 matches to become the fastest Indian to achieve this feat. He is also the joint-second fastest overall, matching Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq at 104 ODIs. Australia’s Mitchell Starc remains the quickest, having reached the mark in 102 matches.
Since making his ODI debut against Pakistan in January 2013, Shami has been a key performer for India. Known for his pace and seam movement, he has taken 200 wickets from 104 matches at an average of under 25. His tally includes five five-wicket hauls and 10 four-wicket performances.
Shami is now the eighth Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets. Anil Kumble leads the list with 334 wickets, followed by Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288), Zaheer Khan (269), Harbhajan Singh (265), Kapil Dev (253), and Ravindra Jadeja (226).
With his first wicket against Bangladesh, Shami completed 100 ODI wickets in Asia. He achieved this milestone in his 53rd match in the region, taking his tally to 102 wickets at an average of over 24. He has claimed five four-wicket hauls and five five-wicket hauls in Asia, including a best bowling figure of 7/57.
