Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni has arrived in Chennai to join the team’s camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Dhoni was seen at the Chennai airport dressed in an all-black outfit, including a black T-shirt, pants, shoes, and sunglasses. He was surrounded by staff and security personnel as he made his way out of the airport.
The franchise also shared a post on its official Instagram handle announcing his arrival.
The 43-year-old has remained a key part of CSK despite retiring from international cricket in 2020. He stepped down as CSK’s captain before the IPL 2024 season, handing over the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, he was retained by the franchise for ₹4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction under the 'uncapped player' category.
Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, is expected to make a slight change in his batting approach this season. According to a report media report, he may use lighter bats in IPL 2025. Previously, he used bats weighing between 1250 to 1300 grams but is now expected to switch to ones weighing around 1230 grams.
CSK will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They finished fifth last season, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.
