IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni created history on Monday as he became the first player to complete 200 dismissals in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni reached the milestone during CSK’s match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium.  The record came in the 14th over of the innings when he stumped Ayush Badoni off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. The veteran wicketkeeper was quick behind the stumps, collecting the ball cleanly and removing the bails in one motion. The TV umpire confirmed the stumping, with Dhoni’s gloves legally positioned behind the stumps.

Playing his 271st IPL match, the 43-year-old later took a sharp catch to dismiss LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 63 off 49 balls. With this, Dhoni now has 201 dismissals to his name, which include 155 catches and 46 stumpings. He is followed by Dinesh Karthik with 182 dismissals. AB de Villiers is third with 126, while Robin Uthappa has 124. Wriddhiman Saha and Virat Kohli follow with 118 and 116 dismissals, respectively.

Dhoni was appointed as CSK's captain midway through IPL 2025 after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured elbow. Dhoni had previously stepped down as CSK's permanent captain ahead of IPL 2024, handing over the reins to Gaikwad.

Despite being 43 and the oldest player in the tournament, Dhoni continues to draw fans' attention. His performances with the bat have been mixed, and opinions remain divided. So far this season, he has scored at an average of 34 in six innings while batting lower down the order.
