Shreyas Iyer's highly anticipated face-off against his former team Kolkata Knight Riders ended in disappointment as he was dismissed for a duck during Punjab Kings’ clash in the 31st match of IPL 2025 on Tuesday. The match took place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Iyer walked in to bat after opener Priyansh Arya was dismissed by Harshit Rana in the fourth over. On just the second ball of his innings, Iyer attempted a wild drive but was caught brilliantly by Ramandeep Singh at deep backward point. The KKR all-rounder dived full length to complete the catch and send the Punjab Kings skipper back to the pavilion without scoring.
Iyer, who led KKR to the IPL title in 2024, was not retained by the franchise after both parties failed to reach an agreement. He entered the IPL 2025 auction and was bought by Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore, making him the second most expensive player in IPL history. He was later appointed captain of the team.
