Afghanistan vs South Africa ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan suffered a painful wrist injury during his team’s opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against South Africa on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the 21st over when Rashid bowled a quick-length delivery on the stumps. South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton played it straight back, but Rashid failed to collect the ball cleanly. It struck his left wrist, leaving him in visible agony. The leg-spinner collapsed to the ground as the team physio rushed in to assist. After receiving medical attention, Rashid got back on his feet and resumed bowling.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first against Afghanistan in Match 3 of the tournament at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi. Both teams are playing their first match of the competition, marking the start of Group B fixtures.

Their last meeting ended in a win for South Africa, but Afghanistan previously secured their first-ever ODI bilateral series victory against the Proteas.
