The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to name a stand at the Wankhede Stadium after Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. The decision was made during the MCA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, April 15.
In addition to the Rohit Sharma Stand, the MCA also approved naming stands in honor of former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former MCA president Sharad Pawar. The stands will be named as follows:
Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will be renamed Rohit Sharma Stand.
Grand Stand Level 3 will now be known as the Sharad Pawar Stand.
Level 4 of the Grand Stand will be renamed the Ajit Wadekar Stand.
A special tribute was also paid to Amol Kale, the former MCA president who passed away while in office. The match-day office at the MCA Pavilion will now be called the MCA Office Lounge in his memory.
The MCA also announced a significant decision to increase the corpus for affiliated clubs to Rs. 75 crores with plans to raise it to Rs. 100 crores in the coming years. This move is aimed at strengthening grassroots infrastructure and supporting the long-term growth of cricket in Mumbai.
“These decisions reflect our deep respect for the pillars of Mumbai cricket,” said MCA president Ajinkya Naik. “These stands and this lounge will forever echo the legacy of those who built Mumbai's cricketing spirit.”
