A cricket ground in South Africa has been renamed after national captain Temba Bavuma in recognition of his contributions to the sport. St David’s Marist Inanda, the school where Bavuma studied, has officially renamed its McGregor Oval as the Temba Bavuma Oval. The school, based in Johannesburg, made the announcement on social media. "St David’s Marist Inanda is proud to announce that the official renaming of the school’s renowned McGregor Oval to the Temba Bavuma Oval took place this morning on Tuesday, 1 April," the statement read.
Bavuma expressed his gratitude on social media, calling it an incredible honor. He thanked the school for recognizing his journey and for playing a key role in his growth on and off the field. “It’s an incredible honor to have the main cricket oval renamed the Temba Bavuma Oval, a place that shaped so much of my journey,” Bavuma wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Thank you for this special recognition and for playing a vital role in my growth, both on and off the field.”
Recently, he led South Africa in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where the team reached the semifinals before losing to New Zealand. He is now set to captain the Proteas in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June at Lord’s in London.
