Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy recreated KL Rahul’s iconic "This is my ground" celebration after his team’s dominant eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Chakravarthy, who hails from Chennai and represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, played a pivotal role with the ball. He bowled a brilliant spell of 4-0-22-2, helping to restrict CSK to a modest total of 103/9. KKR chased down the target effortlessly, completing the run chase in just 10.1 overs. This handed CSK their biggest defeat in terms of balls to spare.
After the match, Chakravarthy was seen recreating the celebration made famous by KL Rahul during Delhi Capitals' recent six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. KKR shared a video of the moment on their social media with the caption, "The message is loud and clear, this is Varun’s home." In the video, Chakravarthy is seen walking confidently on the Chepauk turf before performing the “This is my ground” gesture.

KL Rahul originally made the gesture after hitting an unbeaten 93 in a thrilling chase against RCB. Rahul explained in a video shared by Delhi Capitals that the celebration was inspired by the popular Kannada movie Kantara. He said, “This is a special place for me. The celebration was from one of my favourite movies Kantara. So, ya, just a tiny reminder that this ground, this home, this turf is where I have grown up and this is mine.”
Kolkata’s commanding win over the MS Dhoni-led CSK is now one of the biggest in terms of balls remaining. The clinical bowling from Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, and others restricted CSK, while the batters ensured a quick chase. Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, remain unbeaten in the tournament. They will next face Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
