Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Baburao Sarnaik has assured that former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently stable and is confident that the veteran will recover soon. He is reportedly responding to treatment for the urinary tract infection for which he was admitted to the Akruti Hospital near Bhiwandi on Saturday, December 21. Doctors had earlier planned to perform an MRI on Kambli, but since he developed a fever on Tuesday, a doctor told PTI that a decision on the non-invasive medical procedure would be made later.

The MRI has become necessary following a series of medical examinations held earlier revealed clots in Kambli's brain, the doctor added."Visited former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, who has been admitted to Akruti Hospital, Kalher, Bhiwandi, due to health issues," Sarnaik tweeted on Wednesday. Mr Vinod Kambli is a shining name in Indian cricket, who has always made the nation proud with his performances. His eyes still reflect the same determination and fighting spirit that he has always displayed on the field," Sarnaik said.

"His condition is currently stable and I am confident that he will recover soon. I interacted with his family members and assured them that I would make sure he got the best medical treatment and care," Sarnaik added. Kambli was supposed to be shifted out of the ICU within a day or two although there has been no official word on it yet. He can be discharged in a few days, the doctor had said. He added that the condition of the former cricketer was serious on December 20 when he had an extreme urinary infection as puss had collected in his bladder. Remaining at home for a few more days would have complicated Kambli's condition, the doctor told PTI, adding that his blood pressure was fluctuating when he was brought to the hospital.

Mangesh Chivate, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, visited Kambli and assured him of assistance from the party. The Shrikant Shinde Foundation announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh, which will be provided next week. Following instructions from Deputy CM Shinde, the financial assistance was confirmed during Chivate’s meeting with Kambli, who was an active cricketer from 1991 to 2000. Chivate also conveyed that both Eknath Shinde and MP Shrikant Shinde would soon meet Kambli and his family to explore further avenues of support.

Dr Vivek Trivedi, who is treating the 52-year-old cricketer, had shared on Tuesday that Kambli’s brain condition remains unstable. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening after experiencing muscle cramps and dizziness at home.Earlier this month, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar met his childhood friend Kambli and participated in the unveiling of a memorial for their coach, Ramakant Achrekar, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park. In a video of their meeting, Kambli appeared frail, raising concerns about his health.
