Virat Kohli etched his name in cricket history by becoming India's leading fielder in terms of catches in international cricket. He achieved the milestone during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
Australia captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat. During the innings, Kohli broke the long-standing record set by Rahul Dravid when he caught Josh Inglis off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. This was India’s fourth wicket of the match.
Just days after surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for the most catches by an Indian in ODIs, Kohli’s catch at short cover propelled him to the top of India's all-time fielding charts.
Kohli now holds 335 catches across formats, surpassing Dravid’s 334. Dravid’s tally included 332 catches for India and two while representing Asia XI and World XI. No other Indian cricketer has reached the 300-catch mark in international cricket.
