Star Indian batter Virat Kohli on Sunday became the player with the most 50-plus scores in the history of the Indian Premier League, surpassing former Australian opener David Warner’s record. Kohli reached the milestone during the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. He reached his 59th IPL half-century and 67th overall 50-plus score with a single off the fifth ball of the 15th over bowled by Marco Jansen.

Warner, who played 184 matches for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad during his 15-year IPL career, had scored 66 fifty-plus scores. Kohli now leads the chart with 67 fifty-plus scores from 260 matches played for RCB. Shikhar Dhawan is third on the list with 53 fifty-plus scores from 222 matches followed by Rohit Sharma with 45 and KL Rahul and AB de Villiers tied with 43 each. Kohli has scored 59 fifties and eight centuries for RCB since joining the team in 2008. He is the only player in IPL history to represent the same franchise in all 18 seasons.

The half-century against Punjab Kings was Kohli’s fourth of the current season. He earlier scored 59 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 22, 67 against Mumbai Indians on April 7, and 62 not out against Rajasthan Royals on April 13. Kohli is also close to another major milestone. The former India captain has hit 296 sixes in 275 T20 matches for RCB including 282 in the IPL and 14 in the Champions League T20. He needs four more sixes to become the first player to hit 300 sixes for a single team in T20 cricket.
