Indian batting star Virat Kohli reached 9,000 runs in Test cricket on Friday, becoming the fourth Indian to achieve the milestone. Kohli reached the landmark during the first Test against New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Kohli scored a fifty in the second innings after being dismissed for a duck in the first. The 35-year-old has notched up 29 hundreds and 31 half-centuries in his Test career. His highest score remains 254 not out, achieved against South Africa in Pune in 2019.

He joins Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar as the Indians with 9,000 or more Test runs. Overall, Kohli is the 18th cricketer to reach 9,000 runs in Test cricket.

However, Kohli is the slowest among the four to achieve this feat, taking 197 innings. Dravid reached 9,000 runs in 176 innings, Tendulkar in 179, and Gavaskar in 192. Additionally, Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of 535 caps for India, making him the second-most capped Indian player in history, behind Tendulkar's 664 matches.
