Sri Lanka star Wanindu Hasaranga has been bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 5.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The leg-spinner, who set his base price at INR 2 crore, attracted interest from several franchises, with Mumbai Indians also bidding for his services before pulling out at the INR 5.25 crore mark.
Hasaranga, one of the most sought-after T20 spinners in world cricket, has an impressive record in T20 internationals. In 76 T20I matches, he has taken 125 wickets, making him Sri Lanka's all-time leading wicket-taker in the format. The 27-year-old is also a capable batsman, amassing over 700 runs in T20Is, including two half-centuries.
The Sri Lankan cricketer is no stranger to the IPL, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2021 to 2023. Over three seasons, he claimed 35 wickets for the Bengaluru-based franchise. Although Hasaranga was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2024, he was sidelined for the entire season due to a heel injury.
Hasaranga's acquisition by Rajasthan Royals further strengthens their spin department, as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
