Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed attention with his choice of clothing after being granted a divorce from model-dancer Dhanashree Verma by the Bombay High Court. As he left the court, Chahal wore a black T-shirt with the phrase “Be your own sugar daddy” printed on it.
The T-shirt became a talking point on social media. Users speculated about the message behind the shirt, with some linking it to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the couple’s separation.
The couple married in December 2020 and separated in June 2022. They filed a joint petition for divorce on February 5. The Bandra family court initially denied their request to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, citing partial compliance with their mediation terms. However, the high court intervened, considering their prolonged separation and the settlement agreement.
Justice Madhav Jamdar directed the family court to finalize the divorce by March 20, as Chahal’s commitments with the Punjab Kings for the Indian Premier League would make him unavailable after March 21.
As part of the settlement, Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore in alimony, with ₹4.35 crore already paid. Initial reports falsely claimed the alimony amount to be ₹60 crore, triggering months of online trolling against Verma.
